The department runs a full Russian language program with courses ranging from the Novice level to Advanced High.  Novice students can pursue a regular track (First Year: L1 and L2) or intensive that covers two years of Russian (First and Second Years: L1 – L4) in one academic year.

Heritage students can take a specially designed course, Russian for Heritage Learners, offered every other academic year. Advanced language courses consist of four sequenced courses (Third-Year Russian I and II and Fourth-Year Russian I and II) as well as a variety of content L5 courses taught entirely in Russian.

The department offers “The Certificate of Advanced Language Study of Russian” to students who took four courses at the L5 level (e.g., Third-Year Russian, Fourth-Year Russian, and any of the content courses with the L5 designation). In addition to the language courses during the academic year, the department offers a robust summer program in the Republic of Georgia for all language levels from beginner’s to advanced.
