The major in Russian acquaints students with Russian literature and culture, develops students’ appreciation of literature and skill in literary analysis, and gives them a basic competence in Russian.

The major in Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies, administered by the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures, offers an interdisciplinary approach to the study of a broad region: Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, the Caucasus, and central Asia; Poland, Hungary, the Czech and Slovak Republics, and other areas in east central Europe; and the Balkans. This major offers two concentrations: the Russian Studies concentration and the East European Studies or Eurasian concentration.

An intensive summer program abroad featuring language study at the first-year, second-year, third-year, or advanced level of Russian. Students stay with local Russian-speaking families in the main resort city of Georgia on the Black Sea coast.
