Sasha Karsavina
Sasha Karsavina is a PhD student at Yale University studying socialist sci-fi through a comparative lens. Her research exists at the intersection of post-Soviet hauntology, environmental humanities, and media studies.
She is currently looking at the ongoing legacy of Soviet speculative fiction in East Asia. Her writings and translations have been published in the Los Angeles Review of Books, n+1, Pen America, Brooklyn Rail, Columbia Journal, Isolarii Press and The New Inquiry, among others.
She was a 2020 ALTA Travel Fellow and her translation work has previously received funding from the University of Exeter RusTRANS project.
She is a 2023 Whitney Fellow in the environmental humanities and in a past life edited the translation and poetry section for the small queer Marxist magazine Homintern.
