Semyon Khanin is a poet writing in Russian, a translator of Latvian poetry into Russian, an author of several books of poetry, editor of numerous poetry collections of Russian and Latvian poets, and the key member of the “ORBITA Group,” a multimedia group of poets and artists whose work transcends cultures, genres, and media. The event will include bilingual poetry readings and a presentation of ORBITA’s multimedia performances, followed by a discussion of ORBITA’s works and of the translation process.

Kevin M. F. Platt is Professor of Russian and East European Studies at the University of Pennsylvania. Among his other projects, Dr. Platt is the organizer of “Your Language My Ear,” a periodic Russian–English poetry translation symposium that takes place at the University of Pennsylvania. He has also edited and contributed translations to a number of books of Russian poetry in English translation, including Orbita: The Project (Arc Publications, 2018) and Hit Parade: The Orbita Group (Ugly Duckling Presse, 2015).
