On December 6th, Mary Roberts, Professor of Art History at the University of Sydney, and Molly Brunson, Professor of Slavic Languages, Literatures and Art History here at Yale, will each present 25-min talks on the theme “Displacing Orientalism.” Professor Roberts, a specialist in nineteenth-century British and Ottoman art with a focus on Orientalism, will present “The Craftsman’s Doubt,” a talk that explores De Morgan’s work for Frederic Leighton’s Arab Hall. Professor Brunson will present “Vereshchagin in America,” focusing on the American reception of Orientalist works by the nineteenth-century Russian painter Vasily Vasilyevich Vereshchagin
